Welcome to my blog!
I’m Kupha and I live in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa, with my ever-so-amazing husband. We’ve been married for just over a year now and currently live in a small apartment we call ‘home’.
I was initially quite intimidated by the idea of having a blog about home décor when my own home didn’t quite ‘measure-up’ to the Jones’, but that ended up being the part of my philosophy in starting this blog: to simply love the home you’re in. In creating a warm and inviting home, I like to add a little DIY. Handmade items give me the total warm-fuzzies and there is just a thrill in knowing that I added my own touch to a gift or something in the home. Fine Linen & Clay is my creative outlet where I share that interest.
SO WHAT’S IN A NAME?
One of the things that I think is typical of my love for timeless home décor is that I’m a sentimental soul. I love things that have bring some sort of nostalgia or hold meaning, because then they’re not just ‘things’…they tell a story, or make you feel a certain way, or speak of things to come, or show you a glimpse of an existing world unknown to you. I wanted the name of my blog to exemplify this, so when these two words dropped into my heart, I knew it was settled.
FINE LINEN is a symbol of God’s righteousness upon my life and speaks volumes to me about how He sees me, and the type of life He wants me to have: a life of rest. It’s a reminder that as I go about my day to day, I can rest knowing that His goodness follows me and that He is pleased with me.
“And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” _Revelations 19:8
In a similar manner, CLAY speaks of where I feel I am in my life. Over the last few months, I’ve had a distinct sense of discovering the passions and purposes God has placed in me – the more I receive His love and grace, the more I see that He’s making something beautiful out of me.
“…as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!” _Jeremiah 18:6
While the name symbolises a profound message in my life, it also paints a lovely image in my mind. Think contrasting textures: the woven elegance of linen next to the clammy, mud-like clay. It’s a place of beautiful things, but also, of discovery and creativity.
So glad you’re here! Here’s to creative lives and happy homes!
